Good news for owners of the NVIDIA Shield tablets. The company has announced a quick release of the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the device, as soon as this month.
Things have been moving fast on the Android front, immediately after the launch of the Nexus 9 and the Nexus 6. These launched as the first products powered by version 5.0 of the Android operating system. Other companies are now making their plans public regarding the update.
NVIDIA also promised some Lollipop goodness soon — in a tweet.
The company than clarified that this new version will be launching for its Shield tablet by the end of this month. It will be an OTA (over the air) update. Excellent news, considering other companies are taking their sweet time in rollout.
A short video was also released, showing off how Lollipop runs on the Shied tablet:
Interestingly, the video shows a LTE tablet, which is curious, as WiFi tablets usually are the first to get software refreshes while those with cellular connectivity take a while. But it appears that NVIDIA might push both updates at the same time.
Besides, the November date is mentioned more than once, meaning there is a sure chance that the rollout will happen soon.
NVIDIA does enjoy a very close relationship with Google, and no wonder, then, that it is set to become one of the first companies to rollout Android 5.0 Lollipop on its devices.
